Hourly to Salary Chart: Hourly Wage to Annual Pay
To convert an hourly wage to an annual salary, multiply it by 2,080 — the number of hours in a full-time year (40 hours a week × 52 weeks). A quick shortcut: double the hourly rate and add three zeros. $20 an hour is about $40,000 a year; $30 an hour is about $60,000.
The chart below runs every whole-dollar rate from the federal minimum wage to $100 an hour, with monthly and biweekly pay and an estimate of what a single filer keeps after 2026 federal income tax and FICA. Click any rate for the full breakdown, including take-home pay in all 50 states and D.C.

Pay conversions are gross (pre-tax). Take-home is an estimate using 2026 federal brackets and the standard deduction, Social Security and Medicare, and state income tax if you pick a state, with no 401(k) or other pre-tax deductions. Local taxes are not included. For deductions and per-paycheck detail, use the paycheck calculator.

Calculation Formulas
A full-time year is 40 hours × 52 weeks = 2,080 paid hours, the basis payroll departments use. Paid vacation and holidays are included, because salaried and most full-time hourly workers are paid for them.
Example:
$25 × 40 × 52 = $52,000 a year.
Divide by fewer hours if you regularly work less than full time, or by more to see what a salaried job pays per hour when you work long weeks.
Example:
$65,000 ÷ 2,080 = $31.25 an hour.
Under the Fair Labor Standards Act, non-exempt employees earn at least 1.5× their regular rate for hours over 40 in a workweek.
Tax is progressive: only the income within each bracket is taxed at that bracket’s rate (10%, 12%, 22%, 24%, 32%, 35%, 37% for 2026).
FICA is charged on gross wages — a pre-tax 401(k) lowers your income tax but not your Social Security or Medicare tax.
What is left is the cash that reaches your bank account, divided by how often you are paid for the per-paycheck figure.
Key Figures

- 2,080-hour work year
The U.S. Office of Personnel Management and most payroll systems use 2,080 hours (40 hours × 52 weeks) to convert between hourly and annual pay.
- FLSA overtime rule
Hours worked beyond 40 in a workweek are paid at time and a half for non-exempt employees (29 U.S.C. § 207). Some states, such as California, also require daily overtime.
- IRS 2026 inflation adjustments
Brackets and the standard deduction come from IRS Revenue Procedure 2025-32 (IR-2025-103, October 2025), which set the official 2026 figures under the One Big Beautiful Bill Act.
- 2026 FICA rates and wage base
Social Security (6.2% on wages up to $184,500) and Medicare (1.45%, plus 0.9% above $200,000) follow IRS Publication 15 and the SSA’s 2026 wage base.
- State tax from 2026 state brackets — local tax not included
State income tax is estimated from each state’s 2026 brackets and standard deduction (Tax Foundation). The tool does not include local income taxes, state disability or paid-leave payroll taxes, most state credits, or the exact per-paycheck withholding your employer computes from your W-4 using IRS Publication 15-T. It is an estimate, not tax advice.
- Single filer, no pre-tax deductions
Take-home estimates assume a single filer taking the standard deduction with no 401(k) or health premiums. Use the calculator on the page to model your own filing status and deductions.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do you convert hourly pay to an annual salary?
Multiply your hourly rate by the hours you work per week, then by 52. At 40 hours a week that is hourly rate × 2,080. For example, $22 an hour × 2,080 = $45,760 a year.
What is the shortcut for hourly to salary?
Double the hourly wage and multiply by 1,000. $25 an hour × 2 = 50, so roughly $50,000 a year. The exact figure is a little higher ($52,000) because a year has 2,080 work hours, not 2,000.
Does the 2,080-hour year include vacation?
Yes. The 2,080-hour standard assumes you are paid for all 52 weeks, including paid holidays and vacation. If you take two weeks unpaid, multiply by 2,000 hours instead.
